Hi, I’m Lucy co-owner of Social Butterfly School. And this is part two of a four-week series on behavioral strategies. This week we’ll be focusing on facilitating communication.

First tell your child exactly what you want them to do.

Second make directions clear short and concrete.

Third, and this is really important if your child is non-verbal use pictures or objects to facilitate communication. Giving children a way to express themselves will provide the opportunity to communicate effectively with the whole family and reduce the stress level in your home.

And last, give choices. Giving children choices makes them part of the decision process and tells them what options are available.

Check out our website where you can learn more about our virtual social skills group and check out our other tips of the week.

Also follow us on social media. We are on facebook instagram and twitter.

I would love for you to share your comments and questions.

See you next week!
