Hi, I’m Lucy, co-owner of Social Butterfly School, and this week’s topic is joint attention.

Joint attention is the ability to attend to a social partner. The ability to shift between people and objects. It’s also the ability to draw partners attention to objects or events. And lastly, to share emotional states or perspectives.

Why work on this skill? Because the child needs to learn how to navigate the social world.

How to work on this skill:

Select a toy or object your child enjoys. Then say let’s play and name the toy or object selected. At first, you may interact for a few minutes. Engage in this activity daily and slowly increase time.

Examples of games you can play:

You can play catch, playing with cards, dollhouse, card games like Uno and board games.

Thanks for watching. And be sure to check out our website and learn more about our new virtual social skills groups.

See you next time!
